2/B North along the Danube valley – Charm of olden days ; full day tour
North from Budapest along the great bend of the river Danube there are three major medieval settlements in a superb setting of nature. Each of them recalls a different social class of the long vanished kingdoms in the Middle Ages. Esztergom a 1000-year-old seat of cardinals and bishops is a treasury of ecclesiastical arts. Towers and bastions show the power of the king and the knights at the one time royal residence, Visegrád. . And for the last among the three Szentendre is famous for the thatch roofed houses of the peasantry, a baroque downtown and the artists’ colony dating back the early 20th century.
Nature is beautiful, restaurants are cosy and museums filled with arts but in case of wheelchair or other serious walking problems this tour is not recommended.
