5. Lake Balaton – Wine, Sunshine and Porcelain ; 8-10 hours
The largest Central-European lake is in Hungary and as a consequence it is the most fashionable holiday resort of the nation. Poets and artists praised the beauty of the countryside as well as a multitude of Hungarian families showed their appreciation by constructing week-end houses on the shore.
Driving South-West from Budapest we can eventually stop at Veszprém for a short walk in the medieval core of the town and detour to visit the world-famous Herend Porcelain factory if it is requested. Having lunch in one of the traditional ’’ Csárda” restaurants we continue visiting the Tihany Peninsula of the benedictine monks and the lovely holiday resort of Balatonfüred to get in touch with the water.
Turning back to Budapest we still drive around the Eastern shore of the lake and during this excursion ,in spite of the various walks, everything can be done by a wheelchair as well.
